![]() ![]() ![]() The staff in Our Price always seemed to be trendy and really knew their music. In the early 1980s, Our Price was the second biggest record retailer in the UK (behind the legendary Woolworths). It was always packed with the latest records, cassettes and CDs and also lots of cool imports. If you loved music in the 70s, 80s and 90s, the chances were you bought something from an Our Price store. It was bursting with children and teenagers every Saturday and every single one of them loved it. There were pens, pencils, notepads, pencil cases, key chains, on-trend ornaments, homewares and toys. Inlines was where Monsoon and Accessorize are now on Chelmsford High Street, and it was bursting with amazing niknaks. Primark bought several of their old stores, including the Chelmsford branch which is now one of the flagship Primarks in Essex. There were huge C&A stores across Essex, particularly in Chelmsford, Southend, Colchester, Basildon and Lakeside, all known by their distinctive logo.Ĭ&A sadly closed all of its shops around 2001. All the latest trends were there in the 80s - neon, stone-washed denim, jelly bags and jelly shoes. C&A was great all round as it was affordable fashion and it sold clothes for kids, teenagers, parents and grandparents. There can’t have been a teenager alive in the 80s who didn’t buy their clothes from C&A’s famous Clockhouse range. ![]()
